The Pull Shark achievement is still available. To earn it, you need to create pull requests that get merged. The base badge is awarded after 2 merged PRs, with higher tiers unlocked at 16, 128, and 1024 merged PRs. If you followed an old YouTube tutorial and it didn't work, a few things may be happening: Your pull requests may not have been merged yet. The PRs must be opened by your account and then merged. Simply merging someone else's PR does not count. GitHub can take some time to process achievements, so they may not appear immediately. Some older methods shown in videos have stopped working or are unreliable because GitHub has changed how achievements are tracked. Can you share the video or the exact steps you followed? That would make it easier to determine why the achievement didn't unlock. |

To get the Pull Shark achievement, you need to merge 2 pull requests. Here's how: Open any file in your repo and click the pencil ✏️ edit icon Note: It may take a few minutes to show up after merging. |

The Pull Shark achievement is awarded for getting your pull requests merged. Here's what you need: Requirements: Get 2 pull requests merged = Base badge Why the old YouTube methods stopped working: Those videos likely showed contributing to fake/dummy repos made just to farm achievements — GitHub patched this What actually works now: Find beginner-friendly open source projects on GitHub Easy starting points: Look for repos with good first issue or hacktoberfest labels |

💡 How to Get the "Pull Shark" Achievement (Updated Rules)The reason older YouTube tutorials no longer work is that GitHub updated its automated spam and achievement systems. You can no longer farm this badge by simply opening and merging Pull Requests (PRs) in your own repositories, or using dummy "badge farming" repos—GitHub’s current algorithm filters those out to prevent profile spam. To get the Pull Shark badge under the current rules, the PRs must be meaningful and merged into a valid public repository. 🛠️ What Counted vs. What Works Now
🏆 Achievement Tiers
🚀 The Easiest, Legitimate Way to Trigger ItIf you don't have an open-source project to contribute to yet, you can easily earn the badge by collaborating with a friend or using a secondary account the correct way:
⏳ Note on Processing TimeOnce the second PR is merged, the badge will not appear instantly. GitHub processes profile achievements via background worker queues. It usually takes anywhere from 10 minutes to 24 hours for the Pull Shark badge to calculate and display on your public profile grid. |

Hi! The achievement you're looking for is the Pull Shark (blue shark badge). Old YouTube videos from 4 months or 1 year ago no longer work properly because GitHub updated how achievements are calculated and removed several farming loopholes. Current Requirements (2026)
Important: The PRs must be created by you and then merged (you can merge your own PRs). Easy & Working Method Right Now
After the second merge, refresh your profile page. The blue shark should appear within a few minutes to a few hours. Tips

The old tutorials stopped working because GitHub patched achievement farming via self-merging in dummy repos. Many of those videos showed methods that no longer count toward the badge. What actually works right now: your PR needs to be created by your account and merged into a public repository. The simplest approach is through the GitHub web interface:
After both PRs show as "Merged" (purple icon, not just "Closed"), the Pull Shark badge typically shows up on your profile within a few hours -- sometimes up to 24 hours. A few things to double-check if it still does not appear:
The badge tiers are: 2 merged PRs (base), 16 (bronze), 128 (silver), 1024 (gold). |
